Meet the Team

  • Hani Rukh-E-Qamar (she/her)

    PRESIDENT & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    Hani is the Founder, President, and Executive Director of the Canadian Advisory of Women Immigrants (CAWI). She immigrated from Pakistan and settled in Saskatchewan. Hani completed her B.Sc. in Psychology at McGill University, and she is now pursuing a Master of Science in Epidemiology at McGill University. Moreover, Hani serves as the Co-Chair of the Youth Working Group at the Canadian Partnership for Women’s and Children’s Health and as a Youth Advisor for UNICEF.

  • Ana Dumitrache (she/they)

    TREASURER

    Ana is the Canadian Advisory of Women Immigrants’ Treasurer and serves on the Board of Directors. Ana is a second-year law student at the University of Sherbrooke who wishes to pursue immigration law and has previously focused their research on the sociological impacts of policy on Canadian immigrant populations during their studies in political science at McGill University.

  • Rehma Khan (she/her)

    VICE PRESIDENT

    Rehma is a fourth-year student at the University of Alberta, pursuing a B.Sc. in Psychology (Honors) program and a leadership certificate alongside her degree. She was the curriculum developer on the Canadian Advisory of Women Immigrants’ Sexual and Reproductive Health Campaign and is now serving as a member of the Board of Directors for CAWI.

  • Ksenia Kholina (she/her)

    DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

    Ksenia Kholina (she/her) is an internationally trained physician, as well as a Canadian-trained dietitian and health researcher living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Currently, she is working as a clinical dietitian with Nova Scotia Health and a part-time faculty at Mount Saint Vincent University. Ksenia is excited to share and contribute her critical health research experience, along with her passion for women’s health and preventative medicine.

  • Sheraz Daher (she/her)

    DIRECTOR OF FUNDING & DEVELOPMENT

    Sheraz is a Master of Public Health student at the University of Alberta. She is passionate about helping create spaces where immigrant women can feel empowered and have opportunities to pursue their interests.

  • Rita Yang (she/her)

    LEAD DEVELOPER

    Rita studied Computer Science and Psychology at McGill, and is currently leading the development of the digital toolkit for the Canadian Advisory of Women Immigrants’ Sexual and Reproductive Health Campaign. She's from Hangzhou, China, and is currently based in Toronto. She enjoys building new software tools, solving programming problems, and learning about both neurological and philosophical perspectives on dreams, emotions, child development, free will, and Positive Psychology.

  • Injoon Youn (he/him)

    DEVELOPER

    Injoon Youn graduated from McGill University with a B.A. in Computer Science and a minor in Sociology. He is a South Korean immigrant based in Montreal, passionate about LGBTQIIA+ rights and front-end web development and design. He strives to create stunning and dynamic UI and is currently assisting in developing the digital toolkit for the Canadian Advisory of Women Immigrants’ Sexual and Reproductive Health Campaign.

  • Lily Frohlich

    DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

    Lily is currently pursuing a B.A. in Global and Community Health at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is spending her third year completing her studies at McGill university. Lily is particularly interested in women’s and sexual health, and the ways that education can be an empowering tool for avenues towards better health.

  • Zara Ahmed (she/her)

    RESEARCH & EDUCATION ASSISTANT

    Zara is currently a Master of Public Health student at the University of Alberta and completed her Bachelor of Science Honours at the University of Guelph. She is a second-generation immigrant and is extremely passionate about sexual and reproductive health and rights in faith-based and immigrant communities in Canada.

  • Pram Thennakoonwela (she/her)

    RESEARCH & EDUCATION ASSISTANT

    Pram is a fourth-year BSc Psychology Specialization student, and she is incredibly excited to be a part of the Canadian Advisory of Women Immigrants this year! Outside of this role, she engages in geriatrics research on immigrant older adults and advocates for culturally sensitive mental health services for immigrants and refugees. Pram is looking forward to supporting and contributing to the team this year as a Research Assistant!

  • Harini Aiyer (she/her)

    RESEARCH & EDUCATION ASSISTANT

    Harini Aiyer (she/her) has a PhD in Community and Population Health Sciences from the University of Saskatchewan. Harini also has a Masters of Health Science in Reproductive and Cancer Biology from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, USA. Her research examines the areas of health equity, anti-oppressive methodologies, global health, and health professions education. She draws on her experiences as an immigrant in Canada, while being mindful of the relative privileges and power dynamics in the spaces she navigates– both within and outside academia.
